Occurs around New 2ealand and the southern coasts of Australia and South America.
Blue-grey above and silvery-white below, head dark, with a coloured point extending towards dorsal fin; a dark pectoral blotch, and some spots along the side – fewer in large fish; skin pitted. More slender shape than the blue and white warehous. Silver warehou is found mainly on the Chatham Rise, the outer Canterbury Bight, the South island west coast and the shelf edge south east of Stewart Island in 300-500m. The white warehou is uniformly greyish white, has no apparent scales or pits, no pectoral blotch, and has a relatively larger eye. It is found in deeper water than silver warehou and is most common off south east New Zealand and on the Campbell Plateau in 400-600m. Both silver and white warehous are caught by trawling and are available all year round. Both species comprise moderate resources.
